Sanctuary is an Asandus city, located in the northwestern Ansaras mountains. It is the primary location for most Asandus politics and leadership, and is a cultural centerpoint for most Asandae. It is built into the peak that supports it, with a great dome carved out of the side of the mountain. Within this dome is a great main chamber, like the yolk of an egg, and around it are the main offices for Asandus politicians and leaders, as well as a number of ceremonial rooms and caverns. Above these, staggered stadium-style are recreational facilities, stores, and public services. Beyond that, and making up most of the rest of the cities, are smaller shops and Asandus homes, and these extend deep into the mountainside, extending a little further every year. Sanctuary is an eternally growing city.
Outside the great dome are more homes, mainly of prestigious or very wealthy Asandus families, as well as a series of religious centerpoints of Asandaean culture, called the Cathedrals. There are five, evenly spaced around the outer city, one for each traditional subspecies of Asandus, decorated with precious gems and metals, bearing great spires and arches and domes. Inside, each has a great hallway that leads to a massive domed chamber with windows created in stylized patterns of stained glass and metals, representing the Lord of each type. Indeed, these Cathedrals are where the Lords most often manifest to visit their subjects, and there is always an Asandus of the appropriate type holding vigil on the dais at the head of the chamber, in case their Lord decides to come and visit.
Beyond these homes there is a wall that contains the city, with no structures outside of its protective embrace save one. The Avengaean Bonding Complex, created many years after the main city was built, has attached itself to the outside of the city with its own, smaller wall that attaches to the main one. It is like a smaller bubble stuck on a larger one, a little more than a semicircle but a little less than an entire circle. The bonding complex extends into the rock behind it, and houses in dormitory-like structures the Asandus kits that have come to bond, as well as any novos present. There is a ceremonial hall inside the structure, as well as kitchens, bathing facilities and classrooms, and a carefully gardened courtyard that extends outside.
